Deklaration 2026 — Komplett steg-for-steg guide

Komplett guide till inkomstdeklaration 2026. Alla datum, NE-bilaga for enskild firma, K10 for AB. Deadline 4 maj.

The first time I filed taxes in Sweden I stared at the screen for 40 minutes before realizing I just needed to click Approve. Here is everything I wish someone had told me from the beginning.

Key dates 2026

March 1: Last day to activate digital mailbox. March 2-6: Tax return available in digital mailbox. March 6: Available on Mina Sidor at skatteverket.se. March 17: E-filing opens with BankID. March 31: Submit digitally for refund by April 9. April 15: Latest date for paper returns by post. May 4: FINAL DEADLINE for Inkomstdeklaration 1 and NE appendix. June 11: Refund for May filers.

Who must file

You must file an income tax return if you are registered in Sweden (folkbokford), recently moved to Sweden planning to stay over one year, had income from a Swedish employer, conducted business activities in Sweden, or had capital income in Sweden. In practice nearly everyone living and working in Sweden must file.

Step 1: Prepare

Get BankID if you do not already have it. You need it to log in to Skatteverket e-service and file digitally. Gather supporting documents: pay slips (annual summary), bank statements (interest, dividends, ISK), receipts for deductions (travel, union fees), property sale documents, NE appendix if you run a sole trader business, K4/K10 if you sold shares or have a closely-held company. Most information is already pre-filled by Skatteverket.

Step 2: Review pre-filled data

Log in to skatteverket.se with BankID and click Inkomstdeklaration 1. You will see a pre-filled return compiled from your employer, banks, and authorities. Check carefully: Sections 1-6 (employment income) — does gross salary match your pay slips? All employers included? Benefits correctly reported? Section 7 (capital income) — ISK schablonintakt pre-filled, dividends and interest, share sales via K4, property sales via K5/K6. Section 8 (capital deductions) — mortgage interest, capital losses.

Step 3: Deductions you should not miss

Travel deduction (reseavdrag): if commuting costs exceed 11,000 SEK for income year 2025. Note for 2026 filing the threshold rises to 15,000 SEK. Car use qualifies if you save at least 2 hours per day compared to public transport. ROT and RUT should already be pre-filled if the company applied correctly. Foreign income must always be declared even if tax-exempt under a treaty. Double housing (dubbel bosattning) if you were forced to live in two locations for work.

Sole traders: the NE appendix

If you run an enskild firma you file the NE appendix together with your personal tax return. Both have the same deadline: May 4, 2026. The NE appendix contains: Income statement (R1-R14) covering all revenue and expenses — net turnover, purchases, personnel costs, depreciation, other expenses. Balance sheet (B1-B14) covering assets, liabilities, and equity at year end. Tax adjustments where you handle: periodiseringsfond (up to 30% of profit deferred for 6 years), rantefordelning (positive capital base times 7.96% for income year 2025 moved to capital income taxed at 30%), and expansionsfond (tax profit at 20.6% like an AB for reinvestment).

AB owners: the K10 appendix

If you own qualified shares in a closely-held company (famansbolag) — which is most ABs where the owner is active — you file K10. It calculates your gransbelopp: the portion of dividends taxed at just 20%. The simplification rule (forenklingsregeln) for 2025: 2.75 times the income base amount (80,600 SEK) = 221,650 SEK that can be withdrawn at 20% tax. The wage-based allowance: 50% of company wages. If you miss K10 the entire dividend gets taxed as employment income (up to approximately 57%). K10 has the same deadline as Inkomstdeklaration 1: May 4, 2026.

Step 4: Submit

Digitally with BankID: log in, verify, make any additions, click Approve and Send. Takes 5-15 minutes if you only need to confirm pre-filled data. Via app or SMS: if everything is correct and you make no changes you can approve via the Skatteverket app or SMS. On paper: must be submitted by May 4 but you miss the early refund.

After submission

If you have a tax refund: submitted by March 31 means payment April 9. Submitted by May 4 means payment June 11. Make sure your bank account is registered with Skatteverket. If you have residual tax (kvarskatt): under 30,000 SEK is due by the date on your slutskattebesked. Over 30,000 SEK may have an earlier payment date.

Common mistakes to avoid

Forgetting foreign income — even tax-exempt income must be declared. Missing deductions — review what you qualify for. Incorrect NE appendix — double-check that income statement and balance sheet match your bookkeeping. Forgetting K10 — without it all dividends get taxed as employment income. Waiting until the last day — the system gets slow near deadline. Not registering a bank account — refund arrives as a payment notice instead.
